I was wondering if you guys could tell me what all was needed to make this work. I don't know much about 2 strokes or this bike in general, but I was wanting to change out the points for a CDI. Saw on here that the CR125 CDI will work, but what all do I need to look for parts wise and does it require any machining to make it fit? Same flywheel?

I've found a few stators and CDI boxes on ebay, but didn't know if I needed anything else. My points stator is damaged and I figured I'd try the CDI. PVL said they don't have one for that specific model, but could make it work if they know the taper dimensions with a CR PVL.

rayivers, I sent you a PM about this since you were the one that said you did this conversion. Didn't know if you saw it so I figured I start a thread.

Thanks....

I actually did this swap on an MR175, using the CR125M CDI ignition. It was by far the biggest single improvement I made to the bike. It was pretty much a bolt-on deal once the CDI box and coil were mounted. I recently found out that CR125M rotor/stator sets must be used as a pair (with matching numbers) or the timing marks will be useless, so that's one thing to watch out for.

Here's a thread about a custom PVL ignition for the MR250 - perhaps you've already seen it:

Since PVL seems to be willing to help you out - even to the extent of supplying a lighting coil if needed - I think I would go that route. From what I could find on the Web, it doesn't seem that CR250M ignition components will work on the MR motor.

If the CDI upgrade works even half as well on your bike as it did on mine, I think you'll be real happy.

Ray

Thanks Ray, I'll see what he can do on the PVL deal. I don't have lights on mine, so that's not an issue. I have a buddy with a bike shop that he can sell it to and work something out. I'll see if that guy on the other thread still has those dimensions so I can let the guy at Penton know they're the same.
