I just put a 83 cr480 front end on my cr125. Can anyone tell me the proper air pressure and any tips on the oil/air pressure ratios to help in handling. I weigh 150 lbs with out gear.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

This is a link to the setup for 1982 and 1983 CR480R forks. IMHO you are going to need stiffer fork springs, probably about 0.43 kg/mm v 0.34 kg/mm stock. Use the bleeders on the forks to neutralize air pressure as the forks warm up, not to pressurize them. Start with the stock oil height and add 10mm / 10ml increments if the forks bottom.

Well, I bought what I thought was a fork for a 1982 CR480 that turned out to be a 1983 and I need some guidance/help.

Can anybody help me figure out how to set the perforated ring that is INSIDE the BOTTOM of the TUBE. This ring has 4 holes on its periphery that can match one hole on the tube (see photo).

I am tempted to align one of the holes with the hole in the tube. Is that what it should be?

Also, that inside ring seems to castellated probably for a special tool. Is that right, where can I get this tool and how to use it?

I suppose that there must be tuning instructions somewhere right?

Hi Badsix, it will still be a long time before I get this baby in the dirt I am afraid... so dont wait for me.

I mostly heard good things about the 83 fork, less so about the 82 and not good stuff about the 81. The 83 is the latest / most advanced of the pre-disc-brake era and given how cheap they go for, it is hard to beat.

One warning though: parts are VERY hard to find. It took me weeks of research to finally find a dealer who stocked and sold the bushes and guides (oil and dust seals are easy though). But impossible to get the simple back up rings (just big washers really), I had to get a pair of 97 CR125 rings and grind them to size.
