Managed to find a Bassani pipe for my MT250 and assume I would need to change the jetting to suit, can anyone recommend what I should start with?

Also... is there a better airfilter to fit that flows free'er than the standard one?

The generic recommendation is 2 jet sizes larger.

An air filter will take a bit of fabrication skills. The carb to air cleaner boot from an RD400 fits nicely. Then you need to fab up a short section of tube & a mounting bracket to support the joint between the carb boot & a UNI type filter. If you remove the OEM air cleaner assembly you will loose your battery mounting bracket. You might want to check out my post titled "Performance Mods For An MT250?" for more info.

Good luck

PS. Good score finding that Pipe.

Thanks for your help mate, very much appreciated. two sizes does sound sensible. cheers.

From what youve said, I assume the best idea is to remove the airbox as its a small unit and is acting as a restriction, but i do like the fact it holds the battery etc. hmm.... I was wondering more if anyone had found a supplier of a something more sporty than standard. I did see that Re-Mx (i think) sell a filter for the MT, maybe for now thats the way forward.

Good to know the RD400 rubber fits the carb and the airbox, as I found those rubbers are now NLA from Honda, but deep down I knew someone still sold them in that size, just didnt know whom :)

Yes it was an ebay find, not local and post is killer but will be great to have one :)

I will check out that thread, cheers.

The RD400 boot will not fit the original air box, only the carb side. I found that the shrink tubing for 600V powerlines fits both the carb & the factory airbox. There is a glue type coating on the inside of the shrink tubing that you should probably remove. It peels right out if the tubing is cold. I removed the airbox due to all the 90 degree turns in the flow path. I replaced my battery with a compact AGM type battery that sits in the factory tool tray under the seat. I shed a lot of weight by doing so. You will also need to relocate the rectifier.

Good luck

My information on the RD400 boot is incorrect. I meant to type RM400.

Seems I've had RD on my mind lately.

Ahh ok, Suzuki RM400, Are they easy to get? I'll check it out.

I now have a CR250 top end for my MT, do you think the MT250 Bassani pipe is any good with the CR top end or should I look to sell it and get a DG from ebay? The bike will get mostly road use but will be used in the woods as well when its done.

Upjet to a 130. Stock is 122. Raise the needle position to the 4th ring. Good to go!

I have a eBay DG pipe on my bike. It's pretty loud for a street bike. Have you mocked up the Bassani pipe to see if it will mount up? It may not fit up anymore. From what I've heard/read the original CR pipe is supposed to be a good pipe. Another good pipe is the one offered by Pro-Form. http://amsracing.com/item.php?id=276 I would like to try the Pro-Form pipe.

I havent got the bike back together yet as I was waiting for my swing arm bushes to land, (Bob is a great guy but the postal service less so!) but i have them now along with the very rare collar, and can think about getting the swinger back on the bike and the engine into the frame...

...tho i do still need a small end bearing, and a CR250 manifold and a carb so i can fit my top end, but i guess i can mock up the pipe with just the cylinder fitted and the engine in the frame. I assumed that since i had the 73/74 CR cylinder (with the correct side exhaust exit) that the Bassani would just fit the same as the MT, is that not the case?

Love the look of that Pro Form pipe you showed JM, any idea on price for those? probably too loud for the street again tho... hmm...

I hadnt considered an original Honda CR250 pipe... hard to find tho i expect?

The Pro-Form pipe is in the $250 range.

I believe it is offered with out the welded on silencer with just a stinger out the back. Then you could find a clamp-on silencer like White Brothers, etc. Ends up being fairly pricey that way though.

Your pipe will probably fit, but should mock up to verify. I'll keep a watch for an intake manifold.

To be honest $250 isnt bad money, thats pretty much the same cash as a modern front MX pipe.

Yeah, silencers can be a fun way to tune the sound and the 'go' of the bike tho :)

Cheers for the help :)
