Hi, I am new to this forum and just bought a CR 250 Elsinore and would like to find out what year it is. I think it is a 73 or 74. The engine numbers are CR250ME 1025064. The frame numbers are CR250M 1022014. Thanks for any help.

Do you have a plate attached to the steering head which states the year of manufacture?

I'm not computer literate so have no idea how to post pictures. The bike has an orange plastic tank with the filler located front center with a screw on cap with a vent tube. I was wondering if this is OEM or aftermarket?

Sorry to keep asking so many questions but I'm not familiar with these bikes and would like to learn. For me a big part of collecting is correctly preserving the history so I like to research and learn. The bike I have does not have any lights or any sign that it ever had any. The only electrical switch is a kill switch. Were there some models built with lights and some without? Thanks

No. The CR's were competition only motocross bikes, and did not come with lights. Mark

one indicator of a 73/74 is that the early 73's had hand stamped numbers in the engine cases that were all in one line, CR250ME 1012345. The later models and 74 were machine stamped and were in two lines, CR250ME
1012345
