what tires are recommended for a CR250M restoration?
Since you have the originals, you'll notice they are non-metric sizing. Like
you already figured out, good luck finding NOS originals without blowing
your budget. I just put the metric equivalents on my restos, usually Dunlop
756 and now Geomax. On my 73 and 79, the tires are the only non OE items
on the bike. I'm restoring a 93 CR250 right now and had a hell of a time
finding an original Dunlop K695 back tire for it. It will be the only one of my
dust collectors that has the OE tires.
I recommend you keep an eye out for the originals, because you never know
when you'll stumble on to a set. I have vintage bikes that were completed years
ago and I'm still finding and replacing various items with NOS or better used
parts than I used initially. I am going to rebuild the bottom end on my 73 this
summer because I manage to find a NOS main and countershaft for it along
with a NOS replacement rod and big end bearing. The crankshaft will go to
Racer Toys Store for a rebuild with the new components while I rebuild the
tranny.
