I was running the MT-250 pretty hard this weekend in the Team Hammer Dualsport ride and the upper support holding the pipe on came apart. Finished the ride using wire ties. Also had to wire tie my clutch perch on but that's another story. I'm actually surprised the mount lasted this long. It consists of a piece of rubber glued to the metal bracket that hangs from the upper shock mounting bolt. The glue gave loose. The part has been discontinued by Honda so I am going to glue the old one back on. Any suggestions on what type of glue I should use? I'm bonding metal to rubber.

I'm no expert on glues, but, I'd try Lowe's or Home Depot for some construction type adhesives. Ie: "Hard-as -Nails" which is used for similar applications. The only drawback is that many of these adhesives are not flexible.

Let us know what works.

I had the same problem. I drilled straight down through the rubber and into the metal plate below. Then I ran a bolt through it all to hold it together. Because it needs to move I used "lock tight" on the bolt.
Hope this helps.
Andrew

Thanks for the feedback guys. By the way newfie, that's a nice looking 750 four. Are you going to add a few more shots of the MT in the background?

I just fixed the exhaust mount this past weekend. Talked to a friend of a friend while watching the Eagles get beat-up by Dallas last Monday night. He's a salesman for 3M. He ran out to his Van at half time and brought in a tube of epoxy (Automix 8223) and a caulking gun that looked like a cross between an Uzi and a MAC-10. There is a special nozzle that screws on to the tube that mixes the 2 components together as you squeeze the trigger. Starts to set in 3 minutes with a full set in 4 hours. I sanded down the metal to a shinny finish and cut a thin layer of rubber from the old mount using my sharpest Buck Chisel. I glued the rubber in place and painted the metal black. With any luck I'll get another 31 years out of it.

If the glue does fail I’ll probably try the bolt route next.

Thanks Jake.
The 750 is a 1975 CD750F. I restored it a few years ago. My MT250 is stored for the winter, but I had trouble starting it (actually I could not) to winterize it. How did the 3M product work? Did it hold?

I went out Thanksgiving weekend and tried to work the turkey off. We put on about 40 miles of assorted off road terrain some whoops and single track. We were moving pretty fast. So far, so good.

One of the guys I rode with had a helmet cam. Kind of neat to see your self ride. I need to cut a clip out and link it to a web page.

The only things I do to winterize it is fill the tank with gas to prevent condensation and pull the battery. Haven’t pulled the battery yet.
