Hello everyone! I was wondering how difficult it is to re-sleeve a cylinder from a 1980 CR-125? I have a source for the sleeve, but the labor costs are enormous. I have access to a machine shop, presses and such. Has anyone done this themselves? Thanks!

as far as I know when resleeving a 2 stroke jug the port windows are left undersized and once the sleeve is in place it is trimmed to size. also don't forget that when being pressed it must be properly aligned so that the ring gap will line up properly with the ports so that the ring end doesn't get snapped off on a port. there are some things that are worth paying for instead of screwing them up. I am not saying it can't be done at home but I would think maybe you would want a spare junk jug/sleeve to practice on first...IE press it apart and then see if you can press it together yourself and get it to line up properly.

Let LA Sleeve do it, that way if they mess up they have to replace it, if you mess up you have to pay for a new sleeve. Sleeving cylinders is not that easy, especially if you don't know what you are doing. It's going to be cheaper to get a used cylinder and bore it. Also it's not a real good idea to sleeve the original aluminum bore engines, they get hot. When the factories did the iron bore cylinders from the factory the iron liners are cast in, and there is an intermediate material between the iron and the aluminum that helps to disapate the heat from the iron into the aluminum, it's a specialized process and can't be duplicated by just resleeving.
