Rust removal. Good topic! Some body shops will have whats called a "mini blaster" and can get inside the fuel hole and blast away. I know they then use a sealent so it won't rust again, but I don't recall the name of the poduct :? ....I'll find out.

P.S. I'll be at Anaheim ll this Saturday with 3 of my bikes on display. Stop bye and give me crap on my $1800 tanks!

Regards,

Dan

aaaaahhh!!! This is frustrating - I have been trying to post a reply for the last 3 days but it wont upload!!!

Anyway Dan - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I actually asked for the high polish look and certainly got what I asked for - as for ripples - I dont know!!! However I am interested in the comment re the year of the tank - would never of picked that - bit more info though. What "cutout" do you refer to coz I can't see what is meant there (and if it is the wrong tank I also dont have a correct one to compare). The tank runs all the way down to the lower weld/join and is flat with no allowance for an up pipe that I can see. Not saying anyone is wrong but I cant see what is refered to here.

Also - if your tank's are so much better when are we going to see a photo please of the "real deal". As I said I am happy with mine so would love to see one of the restoed ones you mention?

Cheers guys - hear from you soon.

Rossco

PS - haven't used it myself but when doing some chasing for a tank liner "creme" for my sons 125 it seems Blue Lightning is one of the best ones around apparently.

Rossco,

My tanks are on http://www.vintagemx.us. The pic is to large to post here.
You really don't see the cut out for the up pipe?

Regards,

Dan

I think I will give up. I can't access any of the links on the website you mentioned Dan but then I am in deepest, darkest Africa at the moment so problems are not surprising.

Shall try again when I get home and also see if I can spot the difference "in the flesh" so to speak you talk of with the cutout. The tanks I have are both the same so as I said I have nothing to compare to and that is the only photo I have.

Pole Sana.

Thanks

Rossco

I bought a very ugly 75 tank on Ebay that had body filler used on it for 99 cents plus $15 dollars shipping. I am going to use it to practice on. I bead blasted off the bondo and it wasn't too bad, just dented. I have a feeling that someone has tried to blow out the dents with air and swelled the tank. Will the 75/76 tank bolt on the 73/74? The tank I bought is wider and will barely fit over the top tube. It has the notch you mentioned for the up pipe.

The 75-76 tanks will fit on the 73-74s. My '76 tank is pretty tight on the padding on the tube and I'm pretty sure it has not been blown out or iced for dent removal. I just don't think there is a lot of leeway to expand the underneath center of the tank and still have it fit on the frame.
