Does anyone know if the '83 CR250R had the same problem with the water pump / engine cover as the '82 CR250R? I had a 1982 model and the water pump housing was eaten through by corrosion. did Honda improve on the problem with the '83 model or just more of the same?? Thanks

Everybody I have talked to has the same problem. Just JB weld it up the best you can and run it.

A better alternative to JB Weld is Marine Tek which you can find in most boating stores. It goes on like auto body putty and when dry it is sandable and paintable so you can make it look like it never had any damage. I used it on my '83 CR250R water pump cover and it worked like a charm. It is very strong, didn't even flinch at numerous ball peen hammer blows. It is resistant to water, oil, gas so no problems there. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the tips & suggestions, everyone. I had an '82 CR250R back in the day (pre-vintage racing) that I had bought used. I didn't know then of the problem with the water pump / clutch case corrosion until it was too late. I was wondering if the problem was fixed on the '83 & later models, or was it still an issue.

I fixed mine with a substance called "Liquid Steel", and it was silver-grey metallic color. It was in a tube like silicone. It was also sandable / grindable and worked very well, never had another problem after that. Of course, I can not find Liquid Steel in any hardware or auto parts store anymore!!
