just got my cases apart so i can send my crank to get a new rod put on with the case apart can see where some water been in the crankshaft area at the bottom there is a spot where it has been eaten away about a1/4 of an in. and almost 2/3 the way through the sealing area could i or should i get this welded an surfaced off are these case's aluminum or magnisium 79 cr125 thanks jd

The cases are aluminum. As long as some of the gasket surface is intact (for a guide), the damage can be fill weld and
ground good as new. After the repair, place a straight edge on the newly repaired gasket surface and check for gaps
with a feeler gauge. Try to insure a straight and even surface as possible and you should be good to go.

thanks for the reply dogger i'am going to getter dun! i would not like the gasket to blow out after i get it all together jd
