Guys,
The vintage 17.5" fox air shocks are hard to find and are mostly in bad shape as you know. Has anyone heard of using air shocks that are made for snowmobiles? They come in similar sizes and look like it could work.

thanks,

Any shock will work as long as the length is correct and it is set for the bike. Polaris Predator front shocks are 17.25". I have a set that have compression and rebound clicker, fox podiums to be exact. I have been tempted to set them up for my 80 CR250. Another option is LT450R front shocks, i think these are about the same length as well. Lots of newer oem shocks can be used on the old bikes if you look outside the box i think.

You need consider length, travel, spring rate and damping. In the case of Foxes, changing the two spring rates (air pressure) is a snap and you can control damping via the oil weight and a jet inside. If you can get the same flexibility from another set of air shocks and they physically fit, give it a go!

FOX, SWAY-A-WAY, RADFLO, BALLISTIC FABRICATION, BIGHORN, this is a short list of companies that make very nice air shocks for a wide range of applications today. Each has its own advantages, check em out.
