I have a 83 xl200r and here is my problem

The bike just stoped running mid way through a ride. I accidently stalled it after a long hill climb and it wouldn't start again even though i have spark and gas getting in
It will not even fire if I spray gas directly into the carb.
The valve timming is set like this, T on the compresion stroke, circle on timming gear is in line with mark cdi unit only fits one way which puts the rotor mark facing down which is 180 from the mark it passes
dose this sound right???
Valve lash is .5 and1.0mm exh
Is their a way to set the ignition timming or is it automatic?
Could their be a componant not working that would miss fire a spark even when everything looks ok?

i allso have an 83 xl200r great bike i ride it to work an trail ride in the hills with it. are you getting spark at the plug ( is the plug ok)? have you got compression? only other thing i can think of right now is your cam chain tight. i can't see it getting lose to the point it would jump some teeth they useualy make some noise. seems strainge that you still have spark and gas but it just stoped. i have seen spark plugs work out of the hole but not work under compression good luck jd

as per my clymer book your compression pressure should be around 178 psi + or - 21 psi. did you check with the thottle open and a good seal on the compression gauge then kick untill it won't go any higher. i would think it would fire with 70 or so psi but maybe not. my idea is bad exhaust valve. did it smoke when it last ran. good luck jd
