The 79 and 80 cylinders and cylinder heads have different part numbers.
Also, the cylinder head gasket has a different part number which leads
one to believe some dimension is different betwen the two heads.

I'm guessing the two are NOT interchangeable.

I think it will fit,
as far as I understand the only difference is the 1980 head only had extra finning machined off to allow clearance for the fatter expansion chamber used on the 1980 model .
Although the stock 1980 head wont fit a 79 because Honda added extra fins that went between the 1980's double downtube frame, DG didn't do the same which was a con IMHO they just machined off some fins from the 79 head and called it a 1980 head.

I put a DG head from my '79 on my '80 125. Had to grind a very small amount where it touches the frame at the front due to the two down tubes as apposed to one on the '79.
The major bit would be trying to fit a standard pipe back on. you would have to cut heaps of quite a few fins to do it.
I had an Australian made GMC pipe( Geoff Morris Concepts) on the '79 which i had modified to fit at the header. It fit without modifying the head at all.

Geoff advertises here.
