hi guys i am looking to buy a 75 cr125 elsinore it is all original ,and i think i can restore it without too much trouble but one thing i was concerned about is the rust pits in the fork tubes and the seals leaking, is this a problem that can be fixed. also is 750 too much to pay for a bike like this, it runs and shifts good...jim i really want a 74 but can't find one.

Jim,

My MR's fork tubes were lightly pitted, so I sanded them with one of those fine-grit sheetrock sponges (I used a large bolt/nut/washer through the bottom of the tube into a 1/2" drill to spin them). They both came out great, and the (new) seals don't leak a drop.

Since I believe the '75 came stock with the '74 optional boost-ported racing cylinder, I think I'd rather have the '75 for a bike to ride, personally. Cosmetically it wouldn't be too hard to restore a '75 to a '74's appearance, either.

Ray

Thanks for the tip on the fork tubes, i like the looks of both the 74 & 75 CRs i just remember how sweet my 74 was the day i bought it, i think i paid just over 600 for it, it was still on the floor when the 75 models arrived. i bought mine from my home town dealer (Robb motors Honda) in WINONA MN. we had three mx practice tracks that i could ride my bike to from home, boy were those good times...
