My MR's fork tubes were lightly pitted, so I sanded them with one of those fine-grit sheetrock sponges (I used a large bolt/nut/washer through the bottom of the tube into a 1/2" drill to spin them). They both came out great, and the (new) seals don't leak a drop.
Since I believe the '75 came stock with the '74 optional boost-ported racing cylinder, I think I'd rather have the '75 for a bike to ride, personally. Cosmetically it wouldn't be too hard to restore a '75 to a '74's appearance, either.
