Hi, sometimes after my bike is warmed up and I stop and go into neutral it will gradually stall out. It only does this after its warmed up and never happens unless Im stoped or stoping for over a couple seconds. What could be causing this?

Another question is about my fuel oil ratio. I use Valvoline 2 cycle oil. I also noticed none of the other brands say the ratio for 1 gallon of 20:1. The plastic jug does not say what 20:1 should be but only says what 16:1 is ( 8 oz for 1 gallon). How should I figure out what 20:1 should be? I've just been useing 7.5 oz in it for now but thats probably rich.

Other than that the bike has been great and I've ridden it quite alot. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I dont know about the stalling out problem but the mixture of 20:1 is one quart to 5 gallons (20 quarts fuel to 1 quart oil). Get yourself a ratio rite at your local motorcycle shop and use that for mixing oil and gas. They're about $7 and well worth the price.

Thanks, I'll try and order one online. (The nearest cycle shop is in the next city.) If anyone knows what could be causing the stalling out problem please let me know. How do you tell if your carb is too lean or rich? It might be one of those but then again when Im riding everything is fine.

I did some stupid yester- its a long story that I'd rather not go through but I ended up having the clutch side cover off and the whole kickstarter assembly go with it. In order to put back the idle gear there is a small washer that goes behind it and I think its on there. Everything went back together fine but worse case senero that tiny wash didnt end up between the gear and the slot in the case where the kickstarter rod goes what could happen? I've already started and run the bike for about five min and nothing seemed out of ordinary. Im almost positive that little washer is on there as I removed and put back the rod a number of times second guessing myself. Any help is greatly thanked this thing has just been on my nerve about if it acually is on there or not and what could happen if its really not on there to my clutch.

Not totally sure which washer you are refering to.

Is it a washer shown on this diagramme
http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 9_ddd2.gif

Or one from this diagramme ?

You may find this page of some help

You will not be running rich, the more oil you use the less fuel so effectively your a little leaner, with modern oils a 125 will happily run at 40:1 its quite the norm, I raced a 1980 CR125 at 40:1 for years with no problems, you may have to adjust the jetting a little perhaps a little leaner.
Oh have you checked you spark plug after its stalled out ? If its all oily you may have a clutch side crank seal gone.

Thanks for the help. Its the one in this diagram http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 6_450b.gif . On my bike its a oittle different as the washer I think came out from behind the idle gear and not between the rachet and the idle gear. Wichever place it came out of Its now behind the idle gear inbetween the inner case and the gear. Dont ask me where is came from as the whole thing fell apart apon opening the case up haha. But will it really mess something up if its in a slightly differnt spot?

I found my bikes kickstart diagram. It does go behind the idle gear after all.http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cr80r-1981-u ... ml#results
After looking around on that site you posted the link to I was able to find it. Thanks, the place will really come in handy with all the diagram pages. But again if that little washer isnt on there after all what damage could it cause? Thats a bad design with the kickstart- only way to put an assembled kick shaft on is to remove the whole clutch.

Well I checked as best I could with it in place but you cant really see it behind all the gears. It would normally just fall right out if it wasnt in right during the 4 hours I struggled with it( I couldnt find any schematics at that time so it was just trial and error). I have run the bike a bit and all seems good with no little noises out of the ordinary. I also am out of side cover gaskets. Im not really sure how to calculate the fuel as to modern oils. The manual says 20:1 but of course thats made back in 81' too. I did order a Ratio Rite and another fuel mixture bottle that had good reviews and was only $4. Figured why not get both with shipping being $7 either way.

B-Joe, have you done any upgrades on your 80? If you have discovered anything about these bike that you wouldnt mind sharing I'd be interested to know as I've only had my CR80 for 3 months.

After thinking about it more I've come to that i might go back in and check it out. I really need to know how to be able to see if its acually on there or not though. Its sandwinched between the case and the gear behind/beside the clutch. If anyone has any ideas I'll take a shot at it but after checking it by just turning the kickstart no gear fell out I just put it back together. I would hate for such a stupid little washer to mess up my whole trans. Thanks for helping me out with this issue.
